Replaygain not preserved when converting from flac to mp3

I just upgraded to R12-reference. The batch convert from flac to mp3 preserves all my tags except the replaygain tags (REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN, REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_PEAK, REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN, REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_PEAK).

R11.5 does preserve these tags. I reinstalled r11.5 and verified that it preserved the replaygain tags on the exact same flac files as I attempted with R12-reference.

This is an important feature. R11.5 is more useful to me if R12 lacks it.

    Please advise.

Confirming I see the same thing. "Track Gain", "Track Peak", "Album Gain", and "Album Peak" are not carried over converting from FLAC (1.1.3 or 1.1.4) to MP3 (FHG).

Also, "Encoder" and "Encoder Settings" have two entries each (one for the original FLAC, one for the MP3 encoding). You see the double entries only on hover, in the ID-Tag file property tab, only the original values are shown (FLAC).

Album Art does come over on the conversion, and I like how you can export to folder.jpg during the conversion (ID-Tag DSP).

This thread might be the answer still...

Hi everybody, got dmc r10 installed and it seems that converting FLAC to MPC doesn't copy the replaygain info contained in the tags... HOW COME?! how DMC copy tags?? is it searching for specific tags like 'artist','album' etc. or by a more generic patern? I'm ripping all my CDs to FLAC and then, i'll burn

During the batch convert, just add the ReplayGain DSP. (For the one batch CD I did to MP3, the gain values came out the same as the FLAC values.)

I did consult that thread prior to my post. It is from 2004 (Verson 10 of DbPowerAmp).

As I said, this feature works in R11.5. It seems wasteful to do replaygain measurments twice.

Spoon --- Was it you intention to require that replaygain values be recomputed on conversion? If so, why? If not, do you expect to tweak R12 so that it tranfsers replaygain tags on conversion?

          Thanks,
          Randy

If a lossy compression is used then that can effect replaygain values, there is nothing to gain by preserving the values.
