Can't convert any CD audio

:( Since I installed R12, I can now no longer convert CD tracks to ANY format. I keep getting an error message which says something about the track not being a valid audio format. I'm running XP and I have changed under options to "Windows Internal", which I used under 11.5 but absolutely no joy, even after a total reboot.
