When opening the cd ripper, as soon as the program opens I get an error message saying cdgrab.exe has crashed. I am using Windows Vista. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing dbpoweramp. I have full permissions to use cdgrab. Any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Re: r12 CDGrab/CD Ripper Crash
The MusicConverter works fine. If I don't have a cd in, the cd ripper starts up fine. After I put in a cd, the program crashes (presumably as soon as it tries to pull information for id tags). Is there a way to tell the cd ripper not to search for any tags? That may fix the problem, but I haven't found an option to do that.Comment

Are you using R12 or R11.5 of dBpoweramp?Comment

Re: r12 CDGrab/CD Ripper Crash
I'm using r12.
The problem comes up with any cd I out in (I've tried several different ones, including burned and factory pressed).
Unfortunately, without a cd in the drive, the meta button and the arrow next to it are grayed out and I can't change any of the options.Comment

Re: r12 CDGrab/CD Ripper Crash
Running it under "Windows Internal" mode does seem to work fine.
Also, I forgot to mention in my original post that the crashing problem didn't always exist - it was something that started the other day, although I hadn't made any configuration changes or anything.
I can run it under Windows Internal for now, although i would be curious about trying to further diagnose and fix the problem.Comment

Re: r12 CDGrab/CD Ripper Crash
Did you install any other DVD or CD related software, including virtual drive software, between the time dbpa worked and the start of the problem? Some programs install filter-drivers that can interact badly with ripping apps. Not sure if that is allowed in Vista, but it certainly can happen in XP.
Alternately, are you using usb/firewire optical drives, and have you removed/added drives since the last time i ran OK?

Re: r12 CDGrab/CD Ripper Crash
Okay, having the virtual drive on or off didn't make a difference. But, I did finally realize that now that it was in Internal mode I could edit what the ripper tries to retrieve cd info from.
After some trial and error, I determined that I get the crash when the CD Ripper tries to read CD-Text. But, I only get the crash in SCSI mode. When I switch to "Windows Internal" it doesn't crash.
For what it's worth, my drive is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-851S (an internal laptop drive)
So, I just keep the CD Ripper from trying to read cd-text in SCSI mode, and everything works fine.
Thanks for all the help.
EDIT: Oh, and other programs I have can read cd-text off my drive and discs, so I don't believe it'sa hardware issue on my end.Last edited by Flex; March 02, 2007, 12:04 AM.Comment

Re: r12 CDGrab/CD Ripper Crash
I have experienced a similar crash myself with version r11.5 or r11 when I tried to put in a mixed-mode or a CD that contains both audio and data. dMC would crash when it tried to read the CD-Text, but pulling the data from freedb worked just fine.
Now, as to WHY this happens, I don't know.Comment

Re: r12 CDGrab/CD Ripper Crash
Any hope of getting this bug fixed?? I looks like it's been 9 months now.
I'm having the same problem. I've been using your ripper for years. And now this problem just cropped up after I installed a new codec (not saying cause & effect, just saying). The CDGrab.exe crashes every time I try to rip a CD. I've uninstalled and installed.
I'm using WXP and I've always ripped to an external drive.
Any realistic suggestions other than using a different ripping program?Comment
