:headbang: RE: Compression ratio of wav's. I need to get my wav's down to around 500 KB's to upload them to Geocities. So far my ratio averages about 1000 KB's and higher. What setting do I need to use? Thanx,

Compressing Wav's
:headbang: Hi,
I took an original full length CDA song and turned it into a wav.
The wav is 11,801 KB
Using frequency 11025, 8 bit, 2 channel db compression:
My result is 5,901 KB (1.9 to 1)
The sound result is excellent. The KB's are way too much to upload.
I need to compress these wav's to 500 KB or less.
I have many programs that turn CDA's to MP3's and Wav's and they all work great. I use Easy CD Creator 5.3 to create either a CDA, MP3 or Wav, then I use db to compress them.
This is the first time I have tried to compress wav's to upload to a web site, I usually use midi's. I know it's possible to get a greater compression from talking to other site owners who have full length original wav's on their site.
Thanx,Comment

Hi Shadow,
You will get superior quality by converting to mp3 (~96-128kbps)
or Windows Media (~64-96kbps), instead of sampling-down
to a really "grainy" WAV (although you seemed happy with the
sound quality...).
Using MP3 or WMA you should get the file size you're after and
retain a high bit-depth (16bits) and sample-rate (>32kHz).
I would never put linear WAV's on a website when you can
obtain reasonable quality using one of the afore mentioned
formats and a file size reduction of more than 10:1.
Hope this helps,
