Accuraterip dumb question

I have looked around the various bits of documentation here but didn't quite find a match. And although I suspect I know the answer I just wanted to be sure.

In the new version 12, when I do an accurate rip I get a Rip Status of (say) "Accurate (3)".

My question is: does this mean that 3 other people have ripped the CD and submitted results to Accuraterip in the past? And that therefore there is an effective 'confidence level' of 3? And that a (300) would therefore be something to place more reliance on?

Apologies if this is blindingly obvious to everyone else...

It means your result matches with 3 other poeples rips. That is a good confidence, the odds of it being an error (incorrect) are

4 billion x 4 billion x 4 billion

Normally, a confidence of 1 could mean that the other persons rip was correct or incorrect. Normally, once you get above a confidence of 2 or 3, your error is nearly guaranteed to be good.

Congrats on the release, just got it. Working wonderfully and no more hanging or "rest of the system effecting" slowness, just perfect =)

Quick question though.

I know I know this but I have to ask.
I just ripped the cd of ray charles called "Standards" and the first two tracks show accuraterip as good (confidence of 2) and the rest of the tracks are all inaccurate (confidence of 2). Can they really have 2 tracks of a different pressing, I thought pressings were a process for the whole CD.

Pressing are for the whole CD, but I've been in the same situation as you and just written it off to a different pressing. If the tracks sound fine, then this is probably the culprit.

Ya that sounds alright, although I would love to hear from spoon on this. Since I was part of more or less the whole ripper beta, I have come across this same situation many many times and it makes sense when it is confidence of 1 but not 2...

I have seen one or to cds that do as you describe, ie a track later in has a mastering offset where the first few do not.
