Ok
I have no idea what i am doing here. I am reading and I just purchased the upgrade for the powerpack, reference.
and I got somekind of error message whie trying to install the upgrade.

I am just not getting this. :blush:
Please someone hlpe me.
I posted in another area for help. and some one was aswering me in there. they gave me a link and I saw th e reference file offers more so i got it.

Now I just need an abc guide to get me started and i should be good. any suggestions are welcome.

Here is what i basically want to do.
My computer i am using at the persent it going to hold all our music and movies it can hold. I have very larger hard drives. I copy most of my music at 192 bitrate but I am learning I would want it to be ripped much larger, hence all the confusion for me.
I want the best quality I can get for ripping. but if i need to copy on a disk I want to be able to do that too. I can keep the files i already have for the car stereo i guess.
I do not want to rip anything else until i know what it is I am doing.

I can't help you with your error message, as you didn't state what the error was, and I haven't had any errors to compare to. "Some kind of error" is not very helpful there.

regarding your 192k bit rate and confusion over ripping encoding..
i recommend you start with this then follow the links and read about mp3 (lossy) and flac (lossless) and any other codecs that interest you and determine what is best for YOU. No one else can determine this, because everyone has different requirements/opinions/preferences.

Personally, in the last few months I've started to rip everything with FLAC (now with R12), and if I need mp3 for any reason I use mediamonkey or the dbpoweramp converter (right click the files > convert to).

192k mp3 is generally 'good enough' for most people, but you may get better size/quality with -v2 (alt preset standard) which is variable bit rate.

for portable use, -4 might be good enuff and will save you space allowing more tracks to put on your portable.

hello sorry I did not put what was wrong done. my bad. I will make a pic of the error and post it. but i got this new file not sure if that is necessary?

spoon I got the mail with the file. I am thinking I will uninstall what i have and reinstall with the new file? Not sure which would be the best thing. they are different numbers then what i have on here originally.
the new file is this:
dMC-R12-Ref-Registered.exe
I had another file on here i install with power pack the file name:
dMC-r11[1].5.exe
this is on my pc now. so I am wondering should i uninstall this and install the other.
well I am still messing with stuff. I appreciate the help.

I know some one said that it is my preference to choose what i want, I do not know which of these codecs would be better for me and if i have to purchase each one bfore i can see that is not good. I tried the one with a monkey but it said i had to purchase it my time ran out and i did not evn have it on my computer that long. So with all that said I would appreciate some one helping me and thanks for the patience in dealing with me. It may come easy for you guys but it does not for me. thanks. :D
However I am going to the link right after this and read all I can. I want to get started as soon as possbile. I have a lot to burn. thanks for link

Oh one more thing I use Nero to burn with can all of these be burn with Nero. thanks.

Ok I tried the moneky audio codec and I have to say I can not really tell the difference that much but i did see the difference in the file size. sheesh

ok here is another question. i am not sure how i did it last time but i change the bitrate before i started to rips. right now it is ripping at 128 and i want it no less than 192 bitrate. i want it higher if it is not as big as the money audio.

Monkey's Audio files cannot be directly decoded by Nero, you would have to use dMC to convert the files to WAV before burning a CD with Nero. I believe Nero supports mp3, mp4, Ogg Vorbis, and WAV files.

If you are still using dMC r11.5, uninstall it and all of its codecs, unless you need to keep it for compatibility reasons. Then install your Registered install of Reference. It will install many codecs, and you can add what else you need. The only codecs that require a purchare are, I believe, mp3, mp2/bwf, and some Real Audio codecs. The rest are free.

To change your ripping settings, just click the encoder tab at the bottom of the CD ripper window and move the pointer to 192kbps.
