    set up questions

    Hi

Hope someone can help. I am trialling dbpoweramp as a replacement to eac and have a couple of questions.

Firstly is it possible to rip a cd as one whole mp3?

secondly i have amended the Naming convention to [track] - [artist] - [album] - [title]. Doing this means that it does not rip into a folder as with the default options which put the ripped files into an Artist name folder. I would like it to rip into a folder called [artist] - [album] (cd). Is it possible to do this?

    Thanks Paul

    Re: set up questions

It sounds like you want your naming options to be:
    Code:
    [artist] - [album]\[track] - [artist] - [album] - [title]
    Does this look right?

      Thanks LtData that worked great.

Could someone let me know if it's possible to rip a cd as a single track.

      Thanks Paul

No, that feature was removed from dMC r12 and will not be put back in until r13.

Thanks for the prompt replies LtData.
          Could i ask something else.
I have ripped a cd with both dbpoweramp and eac with mp3 lame 3.97 -v 2. I am getting file sizes which are slightly different.

The cd i was using is Mogwai - Zidane OST. The first couple of tracks are as follows:

          EAC

          Track 1: 6097KB
          Track 2: 5500KB

          dbpoweramp:

          Track 1: 6181KB
          Track 2: 5604KB

Is this common when using the same lame settings?

          Thanks

            Re: set up questions

Since it is VBR, the files sizes can differ each time, yes. Are you using AccurateRip on EAC and on dMC? This is one easy way to make sure your rips are accurate.

              Re: set up questions

I've not used accurate rip with eac. Its a brand new cd though so i wouldn't have thought there would of been such a discrepancy in file sizes between the two programs using the same settings.

If you were using a constant bitrate, the file sizes would have probably been exactly the same.

One other thing that can affect file sizes is the tags. What tags do you have dMC and EAC applying?

                  Re: set up questions

                  I'm using VBR with both.

                  In EAC i use -V 2 --vbr-new --add-id3v2 --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d

In dbpoweramp i have been using VBR [estimated bit rate: 190kbps] -v 2 "standard"

                    Re: set up questions

Your using the built-in MP3 encoder? What tag settings do you have set in dbpoweramp Configuration? Start --> Programs --> dbpoweramp Music Converter --> Configuration --> dbpoweramp Configuration. Click the "Codecs" tab and then "Advanced Options". What settings do you have for mp3? The default, I believe, is ID3v2 v2.3 using ANSI encoding.

                      MP3 tagging is set:

                      Tag Creation ID3v2
                      ID3v1 Version v1.1
                      ID3v2 Version v2.3
                      iD3v2 Text Encoding ANSI

Are both files the same length? Does dMC say they have the same average bitrate?

                          No

                          In EAC
                          track 1: 164kbps
                          track 2: 181kbps

                          In db
                          track 1: 166kbps
                          track 2: 184kbps

                            Re: set up questions

That is the culprint, then. As to why EAC picks a lower bitrate than dMC, I still think that falls to the variable nature of the type of encoding, VBR.
