download realfiles

my professors share their lecture audio by creating a streaming realplayer file for the students. I would like to download the audio and play it on my ipod (or put it on a disk) but I dont know of a way to download the streaming file instead of playing it over the net.

does anyone know how to do this?

If you have the url of that file, post it here, then preview your post and right click the link > save target as.

If you end up with a very small file (1-2K) that means you only got a .ram file - the meta file - not the actual file.

Open it in Notepad and see what actual file (.rm or .ra ) is in it.

That's the one you need to download.

Sometimes it may not be possible at all. But let's see what can be done first.
