    generated WMA deleted immediately

I'm trying to convert an MP3 file to a WMA. I've successfully converted 28 or 29 or these audio book files but one of them will not convert. The conversion process seems to run fine, but the generated file is deleted immediately after the conversion process finishes. Help. These files were downloaded legally
    from audiobooksforfree.com.

Is it an mp3 file? what are the settings?

Can you do a test conversion for that mp3 file?

What settings did you pick for conversion to wma?

The test went fine. 100% completed. Please note, I successfully converted 28 other files (i.e., book chapters) downloaded from the same site. I'm running Windows 98 SE.

Here's the settings I used during the failed conversion. Note the Codec was Windows Media Audio V2:

Here's the settings for the original MP3:

Are all those settings the same for all other mp3 files that you have converted sucessfully? And for the windows media v2 output file?

Windows Media Audio V2 is a compressed wav format - at least this is where I have it in my copy of dMC 11.5. Why don't you use a conversion to Windows media proper? Does the output have to be a .wav ?

I personally am not even able to do such a conversion right now - no idea why, I don't think I have ever tried this codec .... hmmmmm ...

Yes, I just converted one of the MP3s successfully and the settings for it are below. They are exactly the same save the things that should be different (i.e., size, etc.):

          Settings continued:

Here's the properties of the WMA file that I just generated on my desktop per the settings in a previous post. This file stays, but another one that we will call file 9 gets deleted immediately after the conversion is completed. I can see it on the desktop as the conversion is processing, but as soon as I click "Finished" the file disappears.

Can you send me the mp3 file so I can try to convert it?

I will PM you my email address.

You should be able to download it here yourself:

The problem file is: Hearts of Three 09_29.mp3

                  Re: generated WMA deleted immediately

Ok, I converted it to wma with no problems.

But I used the Windows media V9.1 codec.

You can download it from here: .......[snip].......

Please let me know when you've got it as I want to delete it.

No idea why you could not convert.

As I said I cannot use the same codec as you, sicne none of the WIndows media V2 work for me at this point. I am runing XP and got a bunch of updates recently. I had also uninsytalled dMC R12 and re-instaleld dMC R11.5 and maybe I missed putting back something.

                    Re: generated WMA deleted immediately

                    Aha!

I downloaded the Windows Media V2 codec and tried using it too.
I got this message, after the conversion was over, and the file disappeared as well:

Unable to copy temporary file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Christina\My Documents\My Downloads\Hearts of Three 09_29.wma.TEMP.wma' to 'C:\Documents and Settings\Christina\My Documents\My Downloads\Hearts of Three 09_29.wma', possibly not enough disk space.

When doing this, I had checked the "preserver ID tags" option.

Tried it again without Preserver ID tags.

No error message, but the file also disappears - evern while I am seeing it in the folder during the conversion. Then poof!

Now if instead of 12kbps and 16000Hz mono I pick 6kbps , 8000Hz mono (the only oher options, actually), the conversion works fine and the file remains.

No problem with another of those files ...

                    Hmmmmm.....

Thanks. I tried converting to 6 kbps and 8000 Hz and it worked! The quality is acceptable at this level, so this is my solution. Thanks. Oh, I downloaded that file you converted too. Cheers....:smile2:

Can't you download and install the Windows Media 9 codec?

From the properties window, it looks like he's running Windows 9x. If he's not running Windows 95, he CAN install the WMA 9 codec, as long as he does this first: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/wma9-nt.txt

If nothing else, he can upgrade to the WMA 8 codec.

So anyway, the rest of my post still applies.
