Recognizing usb burner

My internal burner stops spinning halfway through a burn. I've had an external burner that I've used for some time with Nero but cd grab doesn't recognize it.
It's a TDK 880N DVD burner.

Is there some setting that will allow it to be recognized or does the music converter not work with usb drives?
