    Batch converting from list?

    hey

I've got a (quite big) list of audio files that i need to convert

unfortunately, they are not in separate folders but spread in lots of differents folders wich all contains many other files
this makes finding each one by one quite long and boring

some program gave me this list: it came in a txt wich contains paths (absolute) for each file, one file by line

so I'm wondering if there's a way to get dbpAMP to convert them from this list
by command line (i can easily make a .bat of the txt file) or whatever other way

I tried the file selector but it doesn't seem to be able to import lists of files (i didn't get it to convert any file either by the way, but i don't care munch since it still would be quite laborious to select each file one by one in it anyway)

    any way to do that?

(I want the converted file to take place and name of the original)

    thanks

In file selector click the square box next to a folder, then all audio files in the folder + sub folders are converted.

am not sure you read carefully...
picture like 2000 folders and subfolders, now imagine there are like 800 files spread randomly amongst them that I need to convert

am not sure I want to spend the 1rst month of 2007 checking boxes :D
especially when I have a txt file that lists all the absolute paths of the files to convert

Luckily, i found a way to batch the whole task

here's how I did it in case someone else wants to do this:
just change the extension of the txt file to .m3u, open dbpAMP and just make it load that file

        works perfectly

now the comp will be converting for the next 8h30... and I won't even have to know witch files are converted ^^

correct me if i am wrong but DMC batch converter checks all subfolders. you don't have to put a tick in each folder. in other words you only need to check the root folder with the "convert folders and sub folders" symbol and it will look through all your 800 subfolders or whatever.

Or am i missing something? as far as i know it wont matter if you have other files in their and the filters should do the rest.

What you are missing is that he only wants to convert the files in his particular list of files (which happen to be scattered in all sorts of other folders, where there are other audio files that do not need conversion), not all files in all folders he has.

                Re: Batch converting from list?

                Exactly! :komisch9:

maybe people have trouble understanding me: I'm sorry, english isn't my language and I think my english may be quite confusing sometimes...

just to explain: I'm using (also as a player) the excellent "Helium Music Mannager"
it tells you a lot of stuff regarding your audio files
amongst them is the encoding quality/file quality (errors)

That's how I learned some files needed to be repaired (re-encoded)

it gave me a list, but each file in it is in a folder (album) where all other files are clean and don't need any fixing

that's why it had become a real problem because the structure of my folders is like that:

                main: music hard drive
                folders: "STYLES"
                sub folders: "SUBSTYLES/DERIVATED STYLES"
Sub sub folders: "ARTIST", "COMPILATIONS" (> compilations have their own "SERIES" subfolders)
sub sub sub folders: "ALBUMS", "MAXIS"
sub sub sub sub folders: "CD1", "CD2", "EXTRAS", "COVERS"

so it would have been very long and laborious to find each file one by one (even in the DMC file thing) :smile2:

Good thing dbpAMP had that support for .m3u!!! :p
and it handled my (big) list perfectly, encoding 831 files in about 9 hours without any errors: thums up for dbpAMP!

note: support for command line should still be a great future feature:
it can become damn usefull when you deal with large amounts if files andtherefore need to automate as many tasks as possible...

for example, if you have an "incoming" folder where lands many archives of audio files in lossless formats (flac, wv, ect...)
I have a batch to extract them in separate folders every x hours and remove a list of files with unwanted extensions: I'd welcome the ability to have dbpAMP encode all files these folders automatically at the end of this batch!

dMC r12, currently in Beta, supports command-line encoding. dMC also supports scripting.

                  Thread moved to dMC Support.
