CODEC not installed or Audio File Corrupt

I am trying to conver .aa files, which I have done many times before with
dbpower, but now, for some reason am receiving this error message on
all .aa files - new and old.

    <<
The CODEC required to decompress 'D:\Audible Books\VerticalRun_mp332_scottfaver11.aa'
could not be opened. DirectShow filter for '.aa' not installed, or Audio File Corrupt.
    >>

I have tried downloading the .aa CODEC again, but that has not helped.
    Suggestions?

      Lt. Data,

Thank you for the prompt reply. With the new version of Windows IE:
Internet Explorer, Audible has created a new Manager. Which I
downloaded yesterday. That's when I started experiencing the
      problem.

Re: CODEC not installed or Audio File Corrupt

Download the AudibleManager 4.0 listed in my link and do NOT upgrade it. It will work just fine and is needed to be able to convert your .aa files with dMC.

Re: CODEC not installed or Audio File Corrupt

          Lt Data,

Thanks again for your help. Only, it didn't work. I used the link you provided
and installed 4.0 which looked a lot like the 4.0 version I had prior. I booted,
deleted temp files, downloaded a new book just to make sure all was fresh
and good to go... And I'm still receiving the same error. See previous post.

Too, I find it currious that I cannot convert new or old .aa files. That is to
say books I downloaded before, that I was able to convert just fine before
are now also receiving the same error message.

          Any suggestions?

Did you install the DirectShow Decoder, put ".aa" in the file without quotes, and install the Windows Media Player filter for Audible?

Can you play the audible files in Windows Media Player itself?

Also, I meant your dMC version. Start --> Programs --> dBpowerAMP Music Converter --> dMC Configuration --> Configuration --> dMC Configuration is when version data is stored

Try selecting "Test Conversion (no write)" as your output codec and see if that works. All that this does is verify that dMC can read your input file. If there is no error message, the file is fine and we need to look at your desired settings for the file.

Act like you are converting file as you did before, but as the codec you are converting to, pick "Test Conversion (no write)" as you codec.

                              Lt Data,

Once again let me say THANK YOU for your patience in trouble shooting this
                              problem.
If there is no error message, the file is fine and we need to look at your desired settings for the file.
And if I receive the same error message?
Which I did. So now what?

Whenever I experience a software problem with something that was working
fine before, as dBPowerAMP was, I always ask myself what has changed?
What is now different? So, to recap, just in case...

Windows IE updated to IE7. After that I was having a problem with Audible's
software not allowing me to download books. I was receiving an error that
said I should clear out my Temp files. Which I did. But that did not resolve
                              the problem.

So, I called Audible and they said I should download Audible 4.0 which will
solve that problem. I installed Audible 4.0 and everything worked fine. For
Audible. But not for dBPowerAMP. That's when I started receiving the
"CODEC not installed or Audio File Corrupt" message from dBPowerAMP.

And, again, I receive the same error message whether it's a new .aa file or
an old one downloaded years ago.

I'm not sure this background helps. But it can't hurt. Suggestions?
