Midi play problem

Hello, tried to play some midi songs I have store on my cp. When I click on them to play I get this msg:

c:\documents and settings\test\local settings\temporary internet\files\content IE\o1mek96n
Invalid menu handle.

I fear something has been changed somehow, perhaps someone could give me info and how to correct.

Oh, at the bottom of that page there was this piece of advice:

1. Run Windows Update.

2. Repair Internet Explorer:

Persoanlly I'd be curious why midi files present on your own PC require Internet Explorer to be played. I'd have assumed they only require a player like WMP. You could go through file associations and see what you got for mid: in Windwos Exploerer > Tools > Folder Optins > File Types and look for mid and what's associated with it. This will correspond to something in your registry.

There was some reference I found also to problems similar to yours with some Winamp plugin that was installed by some users. Does that ring any bell?

Christina I must apologize in that I did not include this "Invalid menu handle" that appeared with the msg.

Also I misinformed you on the files, they are not tunes that I have stored on my cp, rather they are tunes that I have store in my favorites and bring the site up and click on the tune to play and thats when I get the invalid menu handle.

Oh so all you have are web addresses where midi files are stored on the web.

That's why IE gets involved. This explains it.

For you to be able to play a media file from the web the media player has to be able to work in cinjuncitn with the browser.

That's usually supported by default at least for regular media file types. But it may be that you need to instruct your media player first to play that file type and then maybe to allow access to the internet in order to do so.

Hi Christina, finally it works. This is what I did, I discovered that I could not play any music from the IE. So I found out that Real Alternative had an updated version l.52 I deleted the version that I had and installed the new version.

I followed the steps for reparing IE 6 and when I first tried it this pm, still did not work. It is now 8:20 pm est here and I tried to play just a moment ago and it appears to work to this point.

I am curious however in that when I tried to play from the IE and it would not play but give me the msg that I have posted previously I noticed that after every song where it gave this msg:

c:\documents and settings\test\local settings\temporary internet\files\content[SIZE=3] IE5[/SIZE][COLOR=DarkGreen]IE5[/COLOR]\o1mek96n
Invalid menu handle.
The hi-lited part appears to be to me an IE version 5. So this gave me pause to wonder.

A folder called Content.IE5 is part of a normal installation. Mine is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Christina\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

But yours has a funny name ..

Are you running under user test ?

In a proper installation, WMP ought to play midi and all that. At least I'd not use real Alternative for anything except what WMP cannot play. But maybe that's just me.
