The file [filename] could not be opened.

I am getting this error only when I am converting small files.
    For example I have a 1 second long, BitRate 128kbps, 11025Hz, 30Kb mp3 that won't convert. I have no problems playing it.
I am getting these values from windows. I don't get any valid values from dbPowerAmp. For example: length = 0:00 (m:ss) and File size = 0KB.
    Any ideas? Help.
    Thanks

Can you do a "Test Convert (no write)" without getting an error? Where did the files come from?

I got the same error when I ran the test (no output)
"The file 'C:\testDocs\ShortMP3\1.mp3' could not be opened"

Sorry, forgot the other part... I was extracted from a powerpoint slide.

Can you play this file in a media player, such as WMP?
Sometimes dMC r11.5 has trouble with mp3 files, you might want to try the dMC r12 alpha.

I think that's probably a wav file, not an mp3. Maybe compressed with teh mpeg layer 3 wav codec. Saved by mistake as mp3 instead of wav.
Try renaming it to .wav and see what happens.

Christina: I tried the renaming trick but I got the same, can't open it error. :(
LtData: Yes I can play the file, I've tried these players WMP, iTunes and WinAmp with no problem.

I did a couple other tests clipping the length of sound files to figure out what size or length would cause this problem and it seemed like files < 40 KB are the culprits.
              Thanks

R11.5 has a problem with at least some very short files. It appears the R12 alpha version handles these files much better.

I recall that with some very small files (I believe they were wave files but I am really not sure) we were able to convert these by converting to an intermediate lossless codec and then converting to the desired output format. What output format are you trying to convert to, btw?

                  Best wishes,
                  Bill

I am trying to convert to mp3. With the settings from first post.
Geez, I thought I replied to this!

Anyway, I renamed the files to .wma and converted them to uncompressed wav, keeping bits, freqnecy and channels as source.

                          Conversions went through fine.

I emailed you the resulting wav files.

Unless you're nto the same person who emailed me .... :o
