Nother' ripping question

Have not tried to rip todate so need a little help. I d/l the codec that it said I needed.

It appears that I should use dmcpoweramp auto cd input to rip to, but I noticed in some info that I have previously it talked about using dmcwriter.

So If I put a cd in the player and it starts playing, where do I go from there.

I have noticed when I put a cd in the player media player comes up and starts ripping I am not sure when that is saved.

If it is saved to the media player files how do I think get them move so I could burn.

Click the "Option" button in Audio CD Input to see where your files are going.

dMC CD Writer is used to burn CDs, not rip them.

LtData or oxas, not quite understanding the procedure for ripping. Is it necessary to be online for this procedure?

Thought I would try it but didn't work. This is what I did.

Selected CD(grab) put in a disk, I checked the box for one song, at the same time the wm player came up. It did not record. I am sure I did not do something correctly.

I checked the options box and it said the song would go to My Music but it apparently did no record.

I wonder if I do not have the right the right area checked. In the Rip drop down it shows it being ripped to WM Audio V9.1.

This is dumb Question, do I use my cd burner or the cd player.

Bill gave me some information sometime ago but I have lost it.

The help files for Audio CD Input explain most of the basic procedure, but I'll try to help clear up the sticky points. It doesn't matter if you use a CD burner or a CD drive, as long as they are both in the computer. The only thing that would be affected is the read speed of the CD drives.

When WM Player comes up, just close it and click the "Rip" button in Audio CD Input.

Java, I think you're getting a bit confused between notions.

Ripping an audio cd is done through dMC Audio CD Input. This means extracting the contents of an audio track from an audio cd. You can rip the audio tracks to wav or to compressed formats like mp3 or wma.

Recording audio from the soundcard is done through dMC Auxiliary Input - needed form when you don't' have an audio cd to rip nor an audio file on your computer which you can convert. But you do have a source of audio - be it an external one like radio or tape player or vinyl or maybe files on your computer which you can play but cannot convert. No matter, if audio comes out form your soundcard, you can record it.

Burning a cd is done by dMC CD Writer- this takes audio files from your computer and converts them to the format needed for making either an audio cd or a data cd (thats' for mp3 files or wma files for instance).

What is called an mp3 cd is a data cd and you don't rip that - you copy its contents directly. It's for all intents and purposes another drive on your pc with a folder of files on it. You can copy those files to your pc or convert them using dMC straight away, storing the output on your pc (you cannot write back to a cd rom, that's why you cannot use the option to store converted file to the same original folder).

So now what I think happened to you when you tried to rip that audio cd, is that Windows detected the cd in th drive and obligingly decided to help you out and play the cd in the player - because you have enabled autoplay. At that moment you simply stop the player and close it. This will then let you use the program you wanted to use (dMC Audio CD Input) in the first place.

You don't have to be connected to the internet to rip an audio cd - but this is needed if you want the program to find and provide information on the audio cd and its tracks from the freedb database which is on the internet. With that information you can have meaningful file names rather than Track01, Track02 ... etc. You can manually set the track titles and album filed and all that yourself, so the file names will be based on that. You'd have to do that anyway for any cd which is not present in the freedb database (usually home-made and burned cd's are not in the freedb database anyway).

Thanks folks, Christina I probably worded my queries difficult to understand.

I have been using the dmc coverter sucessfully for sometime, at this point I was trying to figure out how to rip a song from a cd. I think that you and LtData both answered my question.

I was letting th wmplayer run and according to what you have told me I should delete the wmplayer at once and then cliick the Rip. I also noticed when I clicked on the "Rip to" audio cd input that the check was at the wm audio v9.1. Somewhere I read that I could not covert to Wave, mp3 i.e, Haven't had time to try this yet but will do soon.
