    smil to mp3

    Hello all,firstly id like to appoligise if im putting this post in the wrong place.

    my problem is,I have a disc with files on it,there are audio files and vidio files,I am trying to convert the audio files to mp3,I had a look around and saw that opening the files in notepad will tell me things,well it did,but im not real flash with all the head stuff,but I did see that they are SMIL files,and I do know that they will not convert from SMIL to mp3,and I have downloaded a few programs now,im going around the twist to be honest,I can burn discs and have converted files before,but these SMIL files are driving me crazy,any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated,a big and greatful thank you in advance for any help on this matter,peace all,and the Lords blessings upon you all.

    Re: smil to mp3

    A smil is a special kind of meta file. It is not an audio file itself, it only contains information about the audio file and the address of the audio file itself. http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=4992

    Since you opened it in Notepad, you were able to read the contents, as it's human readable.

    Somwhere in there you'd have seen a line like this:

    <audio src="someaudiofile.ra" />
    or
    <video src="somevideofile.rm" />

    Or some other file extension. I tcan be wma, wmv, mp3, mpg, any number of other audio or video types. It can even be mid.

    The file may in fact be prefixed by a path to some folder on the cd or even by http://www.somewebsite.com/... as well, in which case it points to an audio file on a website, obviously only accessible if connected to the internet.

    That is the audio file you need to convert. If ti's already on the cd, fine, just use that one. If it's on the web you have to download it first.

        Re: smil to mp3

        This is the media file you are interested in:

        <audio src="Genesis_01/Genesis_01.rm"/>

        Check the contents of the cd in Windows Explorer and you should find a folder called Genesis_01 . In that folder you'll have the media file Genesis_01.rm - this may be video or audio, cannot tell unless you play it.

        You cna go directly to that file and double click it and play it off the cd.

        Best it would be to copy the file Genesis_01.rm to your pc and then convert it from there.

        The file is probably hidden. Clicck Tools > Folder Options and then find the one about showing hidden files and check it.

        It's possible however that some of those commands in the smil file may act as a key to unlock the file if it's protected somehow. I couldn't tell you.
