freedb retrieves wrong song?

what happens when you insert a cd in cd audio input and it retrieves a different title and song tracks to what it really is?

it doesnt say closest match and it appears in the same genre. but without actually purchsasing the cd with this other title it would appear to be the same music.

suspicious? or happens sometimes?

You mean FreeDB returning the wrong CD, or same artist and wrong CD? Its called a collision and it happens often, unfortunately, due to them choosing a short identifier for CDs.

yes it was the wrong artist and wrong track names and wrong album.

doesnt freedb get the info from a cd submission and the pressing id?
as this is a home burn not a mass pressed cd production.

freeDB has a hash that is created from information pulled from the CD, probably such as tracks, track length, total track length, etc. At least, that's how I think it works.

so what is in the hash on my cd? or is that the same as a pressing id on the cd?

The hashes are rubbish, there are many collisions and that is what you are seeing.

R12 uses AMG, much better.

With a home-made cd, especially if it's not made from ripping to wav tracks from original cd's (or exact duplicates of original cd's) you'll likely not get a proper recognition of anyhting.
