    Converter is incredibly slow

    Hi dbpowerAMP support,

    as you get to know from my topic title the main problem is the time it takes to convert music files. I tested the process with FLAC and WMA files and I got a real-time encoding rate of 0,8x. Even the conversion of an audio CD took me 40 minutes to convert (ITunes does the same job in 1 minute). I think the problem is the processor of my computer. Six months ago I changed from INTEL to AMD and from that time on the conversion time to what I mentioned above. I there a chance to optimize the cooperation of my AMD processor and dbpowerAMP converter or do I have to search for another program. Any kinds of help is appreciated.

    Re: Converter is incredibly slow

    That is an incredibly slow real time encoding rate. This sounds like something to do with your CD Drive, more than anything else. dBpowerAMP does have CD drive reading options, maybe you could set this to "Windows Built-in" (I'm at work, so I can't remember precisely where this option is). I have had FLAC go at this slow rate before, but never had WMA encode that slowly (not that I have done much testing with WMA really).

    Also, if you have the PowerPack, you can speed up encoding rates by turning on your PowerPack options in CD Input (by clicking on the small rocket in the top right of your screen), such as Rip-to-Ram for example.

    Also, when encoding in FLAC, using a lower compression setting will get you faster encoding results. I generally use 5 as a good compromise between speed and size, as you will not get much better compression if using 8 to be honest. 8 will just cripple the encoder to being stupidly slow.

    iTunes will encode quickly, especially at default settings as I don't think it is a particularly complicated encoder.

      @Deano,

      thanks for your quick response, but I think you got me wrong, the main problem can't be my CD-Rom drive 'cause I get the problems when ripping lossless formats (mostly FLAC, sometimes APE,once WMA) into mp3-files. Of course I wrote that the problem also occurred when ripping an audio-CD but for that operation I can Itunes. Just half a year ago I had a Pentium IV 2800mhz and everything worked out fine, but since I changed to an AMD 3500+ I get encoding rates less than 1.

        Try a total uninstall of dMC as mentioned here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6828

        This WILL result in losing all of your settings, but may fix your problem. If nothing else, it will narrow down the problem to just hardware if it doesn't work.
