Nero Digital m4a created files won't playback !

    Hi.

I'm using this encoder, I'm able to encode my mp3 192 Kbps Constant Bitrate to the .m4a files

I've also selected the option "Force LC AAC (for non-HE players)" and the files won't play on my iPod nano. even they play on my winamp 5.24

On my ipod nano I press the play button but nothing happens, seems like ipdod is unable to start playing the file.

before the Nero Digital Audio codec I used the past version (release 3) which I could not remember the name but that codec worked flawlessly to me... all my encoded m4a files worked great !!!

    Any advise or assistance?

Hi Spoon thanks for you reply.

I've already updated the firmware many weeks ago to the latest version which is iPod nano Software 1.2 which comes from the iPod Updater 2006-06-28

It's strange that using the past release (release 3) of the mp4 codec my files worked fine on the ipod nano, but now with the release which has the nero digital m4a (release 4) they don't

I tried many combinations like Quality, Constant and Average, all of them with the "Force LC AAC (for non-HE players)" checked and unchecked, also verified that the extension is .m4a and they are playable on Winamp 5.24, even by using the sveta portable audio to access my ipod tracks and play them directly to winamp, they play OK. But when trying to play them on my ipod simply ipod skip it to the next file

      Thanks !

Re: Nero Digital m4a created files won't playback !

I don't have itunes and never wanted to install it (it's so bloated) but what is curious is that using the release 3 of the mp4 code mi encoded files played correctly on my ipod nano, but now they don't with the release 4 (nero digital).

They play fine on winamp but no on my ipod nano.

should I send you one of those files to an email???

          thanks for your help !

The encoders are different between release 3 and release 4. However, the Nero AAC files should still play on your iPod. Have you tried both CBR and VBR (quality settings)?

              Hi LTdata

yes, I've tried CBR, VBR and ABR, also have made combinations with they and "Force LC AAC (for non-HE players)" checked and unchecked

it's pretty weird I know.. but I don't know what to do. In the meanwhile I passed some of my songs in mp3 CBR 192 Kbps format in order to play them. But I'd rather have them on .m4a 128 kbps (either CBR or ABR).

Thanks for your assistance guys/gals! :o

Did you run the "Use SSE2 Encoder" file in the Nero folder? This might be the culprit, but only by switching to the original encoder .exe can we know for sure. To do this, you need to re-extract the original NeroAAC encoder .exe file from the zip file.

I did what you mentioned: "Use SSE2 Encoder", I'll make the tests of re-extracting the original files and try with them.

                  Will post my results

Re: Nero Digital m4a created files won't playback !

                    Hi again.

I've extracted again the nero digital pack, and used it "as is" but I'm getting the same problems.

The encoded .m4a files won't play on my ipod nano even they play on winamp.

any clue what's going on? anyone else with the same issue?

                    Thanks

What does Winamp say are the specifications (bitrate, frequency, channels) of your files?

Here are the specifications reported by winamp:
                        MPEG-4 AAC LC, 4623.053 secs, 129 kbps, 44100 Hz

                        No additional info is displayed
                        Hope it helps and thanks!

Try switching off Preserve ID Tags, often it can be that. Otherwise Nero would be interested in your story (Apples support of the 'standard' tends to only stretch to supporting their implementation, even their mp3 playback has problems...)

I've tried everything you kindly suggested with no result. I'll contact Nero.
