M4A tags not copied during conversion

I ripped a bunch of albums using iTunes. I then tagged all of the song files using iTunes built-in facilities.

Then, I converted everything to MP3 using dBPowerAmp. Strangely, DBPowerAmp didn't copy a single tag other than the song title.

Unfortunately, I didn't discover this horribly annoying fact until I had converted every single M4A file (over 40 files).

Other software (such as Mp3Tag http://www.mp3tag.de/) has no problems whatsoever reading the tag info from the iTunes M4A files. dBPowerAmp, on the other hand, seems to completely ignore it.

Any clues? Is there any way to get dBPowerAmp to be able to copy these tags?

What mp4/m4a decoding codec are you using? The older FAAC one or the new NeroAAC one?

Should that matter? As I've said, Mp3Tag reads it just fine. iTunes reads it just fine.

FWIW, I have no idea what codec I'm using. I just Dl'ed dbPowerAmp and expected it to be able to do this. Is that an unreasonable expectation?

dbPowerAmp also does not display any of the useful tags (Artist, Album, Year) when I right click and choose "Edit Tag". Again, these tags are definitely there because other software displays them just fine.

dBpowerAMP Music Converter does not come with any m4a codec preinstalled. You have to download one of them from Codec central and install it. So which one did you install?

If it doesn't come with an m4a codec, then how did it convert the m4a song file?? The conversion from m4a to mp3 worked just fine, other than missing tags. The mp3 plays perfectly. Are you saying that the codec is only needed for copying tag information?????

Well, I just tried DL'ing the m4a codec, and that solved it! I have to admit, I did not expect that to work. Totally amazing.

Well, time for bed. Tomorrow I'll re-convert all my m4a's.

            Thanks for your help!

Good question. It shouldnt' have worked at all.
Perhaps you already had an earlier verison installed or something from iTunes that kicked in.
