Slow ALAC to AAC conversion

Problem: best case 4x converting from ALAC to .m4a

The PC is reading and writing the files to a Buffalo NAS box. The PC runs a Pentium M 1.5 and has 384M of RAM. No other applications are active.

Perhaps I'm equipment limited but iTunes seems to convert twice as fast.

Here's the dBpowerAMP configuration.

I'm excited to switch from iTunes to the dB stuff if I can figure out a few more things (convert speed, syncing playlists from player to iPod, etc).

Different encoders have different encoding speeds, you cannot really compare iTunes AAC with Nero AAC

Anyhow see the help file for mp4, if your computer supports it you can switch to a faster nero aac.

I doubleclicked on the UseSSE bat file. How do I know if I'm using the faster version?

Check your file sizes:
856KB for the SSE2 exe, 804KB for the unoptimized exe
By running the Use_SSE2 batch file, your computer should copy the sse2 exe over the normal exe, so you should have both the NeroEnc and NeroEnc_SSE2 or whatever the same size.
