The CODEC required...could not be opened.

Help! I have dppowerAMP Music Converter v 11.5. I am trying to convert a .cda file to .wav and get the following error message:

The CODEC required to decompress 'D:\Track01.cda' could not be opened.
Unable to access CD Drive 'D:\Track01.cda'.

I understand dppowerAMP automatically comes with the CODECs to convert cda to wav. I have used this program to do this very things successfully in the recent months. Is there a patch or upgrade I'm missing? I just downloaded the PowerPack (release 3) but I still get this error message.

This is for my home business so time is of the essence!

    Thank you.

You have to rip the audio cd , not convert .cda to anything. Those .cda entries you see are only the index of the audio cd, meaningless to all but cd players.

You use dMC Audio CD Input for ripping audio cd's.

In other words, the .cda files are only useful on the audio CD itself. If you copy these files off, they become useless. This is because .cda files are only pointers to the actual audio data on the CD, they contain no audio data themselves.

True. The only other alternative if you don't like using dMC Audio CD Input is to open up dBpowerAMP Music Converter first and then manually open the CDA files, but it might be different for every computer. For mine, it works.

Thanks for the prompt response. This is new to me. I went to dMC Audio CD Input through my Program Manager but I could not figure out how to select my drive. It did not automatically detect it -- just said "insert CD." Can you explain how to do this. Thanks.

Thanks for the alternative suggestion. I tried it but still got the same error message. Then I tried opeing the dMC Audio Input first and manually selected the file with "open with." But it doesn't seem to be recognizing that I have a CD in the drive. It just reads "insert audio CD." Is there a way to manually select the file in my drive from dMC Audio Input's screen?

Click Options and then select the CD drive .

Of course right away without doing anything else you could just put your cd into the other drive you have and that should work.

I see under properties, file type, that is is a Windows Media File. How do I make it a .wav then?

Under options, the CD drive selection states "advanced" and when I click on it, the option box is blank.

                    Re: Unable to convert

I am having the exact same issue as freebird1963. Have been using the converter program for months with no problems until now. I get the same error code as stated by freebird1963. I do have Admin rights, and I've checked my codecs. Everything seems to be in order. I am using v 11.5 on Windows XP Pro with sp1.

I also tried to use dmc Audio Input to rip the CD in my drive to a .wav file, but when I right click options, the drop-down menu next to Advanced by CD drive comes up with a blank (solid blue) box.

I also can play this CD with no trouble in three other audio players on my system, so I know the CD is good.

                    Can anyone help me?

So no cd drive is listed on options? try the advanced Windows Built In option.

Did you install dMC while logged into an account with Administrator rights? Are you trying to use dMC in this account?

If the CDA is only a pointer to the actual audio data, can the audio data itself be viewed.

I guess I need to further explain that I am not working with music but a voice recording. I do transcription. My client said they provided me a .wav file, which is the only format I can use with my transcription machine. When I open my client's CD, the file extension seen is the .cda and properties state the file type as a Winamp Media File. My client is sending me a .wav but I have been told that some computers will indiscriminently change .wav or other formats to .wmf upon opening. If this is true, does anyone know who to change this default on my computer? In the past, I have been able to use dbPowerAmp Music Converter to copy my client's file onto my computer as a .wav. but now it won't work. This error message is new to me. I never had this problem before. So, I'm stumped and can't work.

Not familiar. Where can I find that?

Yes, I was signed on as Administrator when I downloaded the software and I am logged on as Administrator when I'm trying to use. it.

Sorry, I see I mis-read your instructions about merging my threads. I see you "merged" them already, not that you were asking me to "merge" them. Sorry for more duplication. Again, newbe here.
