    Encoding mp3 at v0 equivalent

    Hi,
Seems a lot of people ask for v0 Apx mp3's done with EAC on the torrent site I like. What is the equivalent option to choose on dMC? If I choose Alt-Insane it seems to grey out the channels box with joint stereo in it. Surely joint stereo can't be the best quality.

PS: I'm probably posting prematurely here as I don't know much at all about EAC or v0 etc. I'm trying out dMC and EAC to decide which one will be better for this purpose. So far dMC has shot itself in the foot by not detecting any CDs I inserted, then suddenly working...

    Thanks.

-V 0 is the setting from the latest versions of LAME (ie 3.97 onwards). In LAME 3.96 the equivalent is --alt-preset-extreme (which dMC uses). You can easily set up dMC to use the latest versions of LAME using the Generic CLI Codec.

Although you have a complete misconception about Joint Stereo, which does in fact have no detrimental effect on Stereo music whatsoever, you have nothing to worry about. When using the presets LAME ensures you get the best quality without needing to worry about specific settings.

Ok thanks. I did later read up about joint stereo but was still not really sure. If I can ask one more question without going off my own topic...
Why does choosing some of the presets only sometime alter the parameters. For instance I chose "low" and the slider still remained up at 128-320kbps. Then I chose "alt preset extreme" and the frequency was still at 22050. Now I try again and it goes to 32000. The preset options don't seem to reliably configure the rest of the options - they seem to randomly select something new every time I run the program.

The sliders (and I believe the frequency) do not affect encoding when you choose a preset.

Set the sample rate to "[Source]"

To use -V 0, enter the advanced options, select no preset.
Put the radio button on VBR, select the highest quality with the little slider.
On the main page, make sure the max and min are 320 and 32 respectively.

Or you can use preset extreme or whatever corresponds to -V 0.
