Possible to convert at same bitrate as source? (mp3 to wma)

    Hello,
I have folders that consists of different bitrates and I was wondering if there is an option so that I can just convert all these files into the same bitrate as the source (mp3 to wma) to conserve space.

As far as I know, there is no such option and I am not sure that such an option would be as helpful as one might imagine (because of the different properties of different codecs).

What you can do is to arrange your source mp3 files by bitrate, arrange these into groups (conceptually, Windows Explorer can display files by bitrate (as can dB Audio Player's My Music Collection) and convert these bitrate groups to wma using a diferent wma bitrate setting (of your choosing) for each group.

It may be that another user has a better solution and in that case we hope they will post.

    Best wishes,
    Bill

In Windows explorer, when I try to goto arrange, there isn't an option for bitrate. I'll try this out with MyMusicCollection though

      thanks for the reply

Open your folder in Windows Explorer and select the Details view. Right-click on the columns and add Bitrate to the choices. You then click this column heading and the files will be sorted by Bitrate.

i assume the reason your files are all at different bitrates because they come from different sources - i.e. it's not normally something you would 'choose' to do

so i dont see the benefit it converting files to different rates - just 'choose' the optimum rate and convert them all to the same

um... how do you plan to save space if you are using the same bitrate (which would result in the SAME file sizes)?
