First off the File types info is from you Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options> File Types.

But you shouldn't have to play around with that - except maybe to troubleshoot a problem.

You need to install the mp4 decoding codec from Codec Central (see http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-mp4.htm first and last codecs) as well as the windows media codecs (see http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-wma.htm and pick what's appropriate for your OS).

However, are you even able to play the video mp4 file on your pc? What player plays it? I suspect it may be only Quicktime unless you install several other prorgrams. I'd recommend you get 3ivx from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/3ivx.htm which will allow you to play the mp4 videos on the pc, using Windows Media Player.

Once you are able to do that, then you are also able to use Windows Media Encoder 9 Series from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.mspx (use 32-bit version).

Once you install WME, you can convert the mp4 files to wmv or even just to wma.

        Re: mp4 files won't convert

I'm sorry, i downloaded everything that you said and it still doesnt work.
WME says: "One or more codecs required to open this content could not be found. (0xC00D1B83)"
        and in windows movie maker:
"The file C:\Documents and Settings\Simon\Desktop\Simon\videos\video1.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

Urm, the key in your thread is the word "video".

dBPowerAMP converts audio, not video... or am I missing something here?

if you have all the proper codecs installed on your system, and use the directshow decoder for dbpoweramp, you can convert the audio that way.
