MP3 Tags wont transfer from Ape files

I have ripped my whole CD collection to monkeys audio format and are now doing some test conversions to mp3 from the .ape files. I have tagged the ape files but when I convert to mp3 with dmc 11.5 using the lame mp3 encoder 3.96.1 that is included with dmc for some reason the files are converted but with no mp3 tags. I have tried converting to .ogg and .flac and the tags are working with those.

I'm thinking it could be a setting in dmc I haven't set up properly with the tags. I would appreciate any help with this because it defeats the whole purpose of backing up to .ape files if I cant encode them to mp3 with tags when I need them.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Re: MP3 Tags wont transfer from Ape files

Try switching your mp3 tag settings to "Smart ape & Id3v1" and see if that helps.

        Good luck!

There is a check box 'Preseve tags' is it checked (after dMC convert to)?

Re: MP3 Tags wont transfer from Ape files

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. It now works perfectly. I can't belive it was a simple thing like not having the 'Preseve tags check box ticked. I feel really stupid I didnt realise that sooner. I did notice that not all the tags tranferred as I have added some extra non standard tags to some of the ape files but that was fixed by changing the setting of ID3V1 UTF8 write to yes

What is the best setting to have for mp3 tag creation? I changed it to smart ape2 & ID3v1.

            Thanks again for your help

Re: MP3 Tags wont transfer from Ape files

All depends upon what will be reading the mp3 files, for best compatibility set to id3v2 & id3v1
