MP3 Conversion sounds terrible... please help!

    Hello Everyone,

I've used dbPowerAMP on another computer and always had excellent results.

However, I just installed it on my laptop and then went to convert a wav file to MP3 (Lame). Unfortunately it sounds horrible.

There is A LOT loud static that comes on and off throughout the entire file. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and nothing seems to work.

    Any suggestions?

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Take care.

What settings does your wav file have? And what did you pick for your mp3?

      Christina,

      Thanks for your response.

The wav file is 44100 KHZ, 16 bit, mono.

I also picked 22050, 8 bit, mono for my MP3 file.

I'd love to know what you think.

      Thanks.

For starters avoid changing all settings in one shot, even if you enabled Professional Frequency.

I don't see any way to have 8 bit mp3 though. Where did you get that?

          Christina,

          Thanks.

          I apologize, I'm converting the MP3 to 22050, 24 bit, mono.

dbPowerAMP works absolutely fine on my PC with the same settings. The only thing that has changed is the switch from my PC to my laptop.

Have you tried converting to mp3, 22050, 16 bit, mono?

I am thinking the problem might lie with the 24 bit setting.

            Best wishes,
            Bill

              24-bit mp3 isn't right. mp3 is 16-bit.

You'll have to convert the original wav file down to 16-bit and then convert that to mp3. Although you said the original wav was 16-bit which would not require any further conversion. But then I dont' see where the 24-bit audio file comes in.

Try a decent high bitrate (such as 192Kbps) that will tell you if the problem is with bitrate, or something else.

try to use 32kbps 22050hz mono for mp3... 24kbps might be a little low for that samplerate.. or even try 40kbps or higher.
