codec installation

Seems like a simple problem but I couldn't find it in any of the FAQ sections. I have just installed dbamp 11.5 and with it a number of codex files. All were installed correctly according to the installation wizards and all codex files appear in the dbamp configuration file under both coding and decoding sections. Yet when I start dbamp with a number of .wav files the only codex that I can access on the conversion page is the MP3 Lame encoder. None of the others (MP4, MPC, OGG) appear when the selection arrow is clicked.
I am using Windows ME. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

There is something that also needs installing for versions of Windows before Windows 2000: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/Windows95-Update.htm

Thanks for the quick reply. I went to the link you gave me and the updates there appear to be only for Windows 95 and Windows 98. I know that ME is basically a spruced up 98 but I would have thought that ME would have been referenced if these updates were appropriate. Are you sure about this?

I'm pretty sure ME is meant to be included with those, though I've never used ME myself. Try it, can't go very wrong.

Hi Christina,

Downloaded the files but when I tried to install them my computer came back with the message that my operating system already had the latest version of the common controls, etc. Still can't get the converter to recognize all of the installed codecs. When I removed the LAME.dll just to see what would happen, the converter recognized the WAVE file but no other. When I removed the WAVE.dll the converter wouldn't load at all!

Yes, I rebooted a number of times. Since I ran my little experiment only the WAV conversion is now available. The codecs are there and installed. The main .dll files reside together in the Compression folder with the encoder .dll files each in their own codex specific subfolder within the Compression folder. Is that the way it's supposed to be? Should something be move somewhere else?

No, you should not have to move anything manually. It looks like you may have ended up with a faulty installation.

I'd say to totally uninstall all dB components including the dB codecs, from Control Panel > Install/uninstall programs . If needed a full uninstall that involves registry cleaning (have to find the link for that).

Then do a clean install first of dMC and then the variuos codecs you need.


Do you by chance have something like Windows Blinds installed?

Delete the folders dbpoweramp\multiplayer\input and dbpoweramp\compression then reinstall.

Actually, I went ahead and reinstalled as Christina suggested. First I uninstalled the dbAMP along with all codecs completely, then I did a complete registry cleaning (although nothing was found to clean). Then I reinstalled. I now can access all the codecs on the conversion page, but only with the mouse wheel between the two buttons. The mouse buttons themselves are still not functioning within dbAMP. Still, it works so I'll take it! Thanks for the help!
