    Problem player-Mp3 to MP1-layer 3 [I think]...

OTR fan. Have several OTR-MP3 CDs. All play fine in all pooter CD drives and portable player.
In home DVD-MP3 player [most desirable]...all I get are POPS & SNAPS.

    Home player mfg'd 9-00. Bought 9-01.

    Just a few months ago I 'discovered' MP3 !!
Sent an original MP3 Old Time Radio CD to 'player tech'. Their lab player [same as mine] POPS & SNAPS ALSO...They said they can't help except to suggest to convert to CBR MP3 instead of VBR which OTR MP3 CDs are burned at. Ran a few [80] original MP3 files thru problem player and found 10 that will actually run OK...!!!

Noted that these MP3 files were ALL MPEG 1 layer 3.

How do I convert the rest of these files to MPEG 1-layer 3 ?!?!
Do not see where or how I can set the converter
    to MPEG 1-layer 3.
Naturally this assumes I am heading in the right direction......

Please bear in mind I am a newbee to all the tech talk here and am dumber than a rock...

Looking at the info on the files with your dbpoweramp software.....most are as follows.

    TYPE : MP3 Audio
    EXTENTION : .mp3
    LENGTH SIZE : 23:43
    SIZE : 8339kb
    ORIGINAL SIZE : 122566 kb
    COMPRESSION : 14-1 [6%]

    Bitrate [kbps] 48
    Frequency [hz] 44100
    Channels : 1
    Channel Mode : mono
    Level : MPEG 1 Layer 3
    Encoded by : Xing [old]

It was suggested by the OTR MP3 seller to try converting to stereo as he'd seen improvement there.

Before I go any more insane...can you direct me to a path that might help this headscratching ?!?!

NOTE: I did convert several 'test' files to CBR and various bitrates and hz but STILL the problem player cant play them although it still will READ [menu] them.....sigh

Hoping someone has a magic button for me to push.....
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

Just to set the record straight, MP3 = MPEG 1 - Layer 3, in the
    same way as MP2 = MPEG 1 - Layer 2.

I think you should try some different settings in the MP3 encoder,
or maybe even try the Blade MP3 codec which can be installed
seperately (download from dbpoweramp codec central).

I would also try and find out what kind of MP3's your player will
play (bitrate, sample frequency, VBR/CBR, Lame/Blade/Xing etc..).
This info should be somewhere in the handbook or on the website
    from the players manufacturer.

Making the files "stereo" would definately be a good thing to try.

    Hope this helps,
    Daren.

      Found that MAGIC BUTTON !!!

Although my pooter CD drives as well as portable player plays my OTR MP3s without a hitch... The one I really wanted to play them was my Home Theatre DVD-MP3 player with its better sound system.
WALLA... found that although most files were of lower bitrates many were also mono MPEG 2 layer 3...

I redid them at several various settings and found that my problem player likes STEREO 32 bit 44100 hz MPEG 1 layer 3 Interesting also is that the size of the file[s] are either the same or just a wee bit larger 2-4%.

Thanks to DAREN and even to all that just looked at my post.
The one biggie thing I learned besides a small portion of the technical stuff was to START the re-do of the problem files and walk away, letting my pooter grind them out....thereby saving me hours of boring hand wringing sitting here watching dbpoweramp do the work.
