Reduce volume on ripping

Hi. I have one or two CDs which, when ripped to MP3, seem to be such a high volume that I am getting severe clipping distortion on playback. Is there anything I can do to reduce the volume at the ripping stage? Failing that, what would people suggest I do?

Are you applying any DSP Effects? To check, when you tell it to rip the CD, right-click the "Rip To" button to bring up an options window. In that window, click the "PowerPack DSP Effects" title and see if there is anything in the left portion of the window.

To amplify upon LtData's suggestion:
Improperly set DSP effects (most likely either Volume Normalization or the Equalizer DSP's) can cause this. I will note however that neither of these DSP's, preperly set should produce clipping or distortion. If you are using eithe of these DSP effects, please tell us what settings you are using.

The Volume Quieten DSP can be used to reduce the loudness of loud tracks (or loud parts within a track). If there is clipping or distortion in the original CD (or if you artifically create distortion with improperly set Volume Normalization or EQ DSPs), Volume Quieten cannot remove the actual clipping and may not remove the distortion (depending upon whether the distortion is inherent in the track or whether it is a result of problems with the sound system you are playing it through).
