No, but setting the priority to "Below Normal" should help your system run more smoothly while you are converting.

i convert often because some internet radio shows sound as if they are playing too slowly on my mp3 portable player(the opposite of the chipmunk effect) is there a way to avoid this type of conversion?

Check the frequency of your resultant mp3 files and make sure it is 44.1KHZ or 44100Hz. That might be the culprit
