    FAAC vs. Nero AAC

    Hello,

I want to convert some music files from WAV to AAC to play them on my iPod, but I wanted to know whether to choose for FAAC or Nero AAC. Is there any difference between those two? I want to convert my files to 128k AAC.

Nero AAC is the better bet as FAAC has not been updated since 2004 as all the developers went to work for erm, Nero!

Just remember that the Nero AAC codec doesn't work with Nero 7.

It's an interesting topic to consider. Yes, FAAC hasn't been updated since 2004, and the Nero AAC codec doesn't work for Nero 7.

So... You can consider not upgrading to Nero 7. (seriously!) Nero 7 lags a whole ton, and I was convinced not to upgrade from the trial, but my uncle got it anyway. If you stick with Nero 6, I'd fully recommend that you stick with the Nero AAC codec.

          Re: FAAC vs. Nero AAC

I've been trying FAAC and Nero AAC, but I don't hear a difference at all. But ofcourse Nero AAC is more up-to-date than FAAC.

Nero AAC works with Nero 7, I already tested it, and it worked without any problems. Although the FAAC encoder converts with 12x real-time while Nero AAC converts with 8x real-time (on an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ with 1024 MB RAM).

The only difference I found between FAAC and Nero AAC is that Nero AAC supports much higher bit-rates, and that it also supports High Efficiency coding.

My conclusion is: If you are looking for a simple and free encoder for converting your songs to listen on your iPod, go for FAAC. If you are looking for a encoder which supports higher bitrates, and you want to play your music using Surround Sound set-ups, you might consider to use Nero AAC.

I hope people agree with my conclusion.

How did you get the Nero AAC codec to work with Nero 7? I couldn't figure out how to get it to work on my computer, nor could another person.

              I second that (wait, didn't I already?)

And none of my friends could either, I just rung up 2.

I've done nothing special, I just installed Nero 7, and after that I installed the Nero AAC plug-in for dbPowerAMP, and it worked without any problems.
