May want to experiment with Options > drive options - ripping speed and slow ripping on or off.

Enable Rip to ram. You don't have a lot though, and you pc is rather slow, so don't expect miracles.

Get rid of any DSP effects.

If you don't need them, don't bother making playlists.

If you don't need Freedb access don't ask for it - if it's a home-made cd you're ripping, this is useless anyway.

Play with the ram size - auto may be OK or you may want to try a fixed size.

    Priority of conversion Below Normal.

Play with codecs and compression formats to see what works best for you.

Remember that the higher the bitrate you select, the lower your encoding speed but the better your quality.

Get plenty of RAM (above 512MB), avoid any and all Celeron and Sempron computers, and if you get a Pentium 4, get above 3GHz if possible. For the best encoding speeds, get an Athlon 64 machine.

The other alternative is to rip the CD to all WAVE, or even better, just rip the CD image using Alcohol 120% or Nero, and then use dBpowerAMP Music Converter to pull tracks off and convert them fast off your hard drive (works best with a SATA or SATA-II and lots of RAM at 400mhz or more)

            Good luck! -neil

Dual core and using the newer R12 converter when available will allow twice the normal encoding speed.

Re: How do I get the maximun encoding speed

Sorry for adding post to this old thread. I'm curious since I could rip my cd using itunes (192kbps VBR mp3) at around 24x speed, but when using dMC audio CD input, usually around x4~x7 (192kbps min, VBR, mp3 lame - I'm using registered product).
What's difference these two ripping tools, setting was not the same?

Re: How do I get the maximun encoding speed

iTunes uses a different mp3 encoder to dbpoweramp (which uses Lame), Lame is a higher quality encoder.

I see, thanks for the answer. Thought speed difference seems somewhat big, I can stick to dMC audio CD input.

Later this year we will be offering 2 extra mp3 encoders (both commercial ones, one is very fast).
