    VBR/CBR Tags

    Hello
Im a Dj currently needing to convert VBR files to CBR so that my cd players will read elapsed time etc. The issue I'm having is while looking for the files that might need to be converted within dBAmp Music Converter, a few tags are showing that a file is (for example) CBR 192kbps when in fact it is a VBR. Could these be incorrect manually edited tags? Is there any way to know what the file actually "is" (VBR or CBR)(along with what bitrate) if it is manually tagged wrong ????
Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Could it be your players expect a certain type of ID tag and your files have a different type, so they get lost reading and interpreting any of the file headers?

If you look in dMC Configuration you have several flavors of ID tags that can be used. might be just a matter of figuring out what your players need. The you'll have to retag the files using the proper method - but this is where I don't know off the top of my head how you'd do it without reconverting.

ID Tags do not play apart with VBR / CBR mp3 files - there can be a XING header, or FhG header that can hold the length of the file (and shows it is vbr), if that header is not there then a program such as dBpowerAMP has to start decoding the mp3 file to see if the bitrate varies, now obviously there has to be a trade off between speed and getting results.

dMC R12 alpha has much better mp3 handling - install it and it creates a bridge to r11.5 so it can use the new decoder.

dMC r11.5 is the latest stable version of dMC available. dMC is dBpowerAMP Music Converter. The "r11.5" and "r12" refer to the release numbers. dMC r12 is in alpha and the link is below in my signature.
