    .ram help

I downloaded a song, in .ram format, and converted it into a .wav and a .mp3 file. When I try to play them it says that it is 0 seconds long. Does anyone know what the problem is?

    Re: .ram help

Did you download the actual audio file or just the meta file? How big is the .ram file? If it's just 1K or so it's only the meta file. OPen it in Notepad and you will the address of the true audio file. If it's prefixed as rtsp:// you cnanot download it. If it's http:// you might be able to download it - unless it's again a .ram file. It should be a .ra or .rm file.

There is a problem in IE whereby if you try to download a .ra or .rm file it first proposes to save it as .ram - which is the wrong extension. This is where you have to manually change that to .ra or .rm.

Once you have teh actual file downlaoded, then you have to see which real media codec works with it. It will be either just DirectShow with real media filters (also requiring Real Alternative to be installed instead of Real Player), or the older real media codec (requiring Real Player to be installed and NOT Real Alternative and working in real time). It could work with one, or the other ot both or even none. It depends. I think if the audio file was encoded for multiple audiences then it won't be convertible with either codec, even if you can play it OK.
