    ALAC conversion

I bought dbPoweramp in order to convert my CD collection to Apple lossless format to put on my Ipod (I didn't want to use Itunes). I can't figure out how to encode in ALAC - it appears that dbPoweramp supports decoding but not encoding in ALAC. Is this correct, because in the description it appears the codec encodes and decodes in ALAC.

    Thanks.

    Re: ALAC conversion

You have to use the iTunes encoder to encode to ALAC. The codec you describe only decodes ALAC files. However, Spoon has mentioned there is an ALAC encoder in development that will NOT require iTunes. Until then, you will have to install iTunes and use the iTunes encoder.
You do still need the main mp4/m4a codec in order to get tags for the ALAC files.
