Upgrading from dMC 11 to 11.5?

I downloaded dMC 11 several months back and got around to installing it finally the other day, and it works well apart from some slightly ratty behaviour by getpopupinfo.exe. I haven't registered anything nor purchased the power pack.

However, in searching about the dbpoweramp website I discovered that dMC 11.5 had been released quite a while ago.

My main interest at the moment is making the occasional audio CD from mp3 and rm files.

    My questions:

    1. Is 11.5 a substantial improvement on 11, or should I wait until dMC12 comes out?

    2. If I do upgrade to 11.5, how should I do it? Uninstall 11 or just write over top. (I'm running Win2000).

    3. If I do upgrade, has anything changed in terms of expiry of codec options etc?

    TIA

Re: Upgrading from dMC 11 to 11.5?

With respect to your first question, you can see the version changes from 11 to 11.1 to 11.5 here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/Version-Changes-DMC.htm

I believe you are already in a state where you cannot encode mp3 (since you don't have registered Power Pack and assuming you don't have an active trial version), I would encourage the upgrade. (This also holds true for the instance where you have an active trial version of the Power Pack).

As for installing, install 11.5 over 11 without uninstalling.

If you have an active trial version of Power Pack, as long as you install 11.5 without uninstalling 11, I believe your trial will continue to be active until the original 30 day period has elapsed. Any and all other codecs you have installed will continue as is (aside from the changes in the Mpeg Audio Decoder and wave that are built-in to dMC). There have been some upgrades to certain of the codecs (which are listed here:
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/) since r11 was released, so you may want to upgrade any of the older codecs you may have been using.

    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,
    Bill
