    SetThreadDescription missing in kernel32.dll / Windows 7

    Hi,

In the new 2023-06-15 version of dBpoweramp Reference, the following message displays when starting "CD Ripper" or "dBpoweramp Configuration/Audio Codecs":

The procedure entry point SetThreadDescription could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.
It seems that this procedure doesn't exist in Windows 7 (introduced in Windows 10, version 1607).

Does dBpoweramp still support Windows 7 ?

In the description of dBpoweramp Music Converter, it is said: "For Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7, Vista & macOS High Sierra or newer (Apple M1 included). Unicode and 64-bit compatible."

    Thank you.

The requirements say that it supposed to work with windows vista - which is before windows 7 -- so i would believe it should work with windows 7 -- It certainly installed onto windows 7 with no issues.

I've also gotten the same error message when Clicking on CD Ripper or the List/Options button from the Control Center:

    Windows 7 x64

    dbPowerAmp release 2023-06-15 x64

Text Box Title: dbConfig: Entry Point Not Found
Error Msg: "The procedure entry point SetThreadDescription could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.DLL

dBpoweramp version 2023-06-15 calls the SetThreadDescription function, which is NOT supported by Windows Vista, 7, 8.1 and Windows 10 up to v1703.

The question is: why this function is used? It's not really useful and is often only used for debugging.

Windows 7 should be supported, we will look at it.

Hi there. First post... woo! Just to chime in, I'm having the same issue. Rolling back to 2023-01-20 didn't fix the problem... might require a un- & re-installation...? Thanks for a fantastic product!

Yes, if you uninstall and re-install the previous version, it works.
