    Type FLAC Audio File (VLC)

Why do all the ripped flac audio files have as file type (VLC)?

You have assigned the extension flac to VLC.

No, the file name has the extension .flac when it was ripped, and the File Type has amended (VLC).

This was from File Properties from a Windows PC.

file still has the extension .flac. but in windows, you've told it somehow that all FLAC files are played with VLC and thus, it gives all .flac files a VLC type. In my case, I've assigned FLAC files to be foobar2000 files and they show up with icons for foobar2000 flac files. This is nothing to do with the files themselves. Instead it's about the app set to be the preferred player of FLAC files.
