Could a CD from 1986 be defective by design?

This is a 1986 Pro-Arte classical CD, I'm unsure where it was pressed, it is Made in Japan. Might be Denon or JVC pressing.

It's unable to be ripped in standard settings in dbpoweramp's Secure mode but does rip fine in Defective By Design, this is in 3 different CD drives though all of them are laptop drives. EAC secure test & copy won't even make it past the first track, it will just get stuck on the first track with sync error appearing.

Is there a way to generate a log so I could add it here?

It is unlikely, more likely the disc has degraded.

The disc appears pristine and this occurs with two different copies of the exact same album, I got it exchanged with the seller that had some old stock. This is the CD in question:

What does unable to be ripped mean exactly (please post any error messages).

There is no AccurateRip entry for this disc so it goes to Ultra Secure then does 6 passes of ripping and then says "re-ripping 5000 frames".

... and when ripped using Defective By Design, you say it rips fine, so does fine mean you get an accuraterip?

Rips fine as in it sounds alright when playing the FLAC files, ie there are no pops, clicks, etc.

Defective by design doesn't generate a log, at least one that I am able to see. And if it says AccurateRip not present in the database, how would I know if it was an AccurateRip?

If it is not in the AccurateRip database, it can't be an AccurateRip - simple as this. But it doesn't mean that the rip can't be errorfree. You just can't check it with the database.
