CD-drive not recognized

After reading very favorable reviews about dBpoweramp I bought the full 64 bits version 17.2.

The rip of the first CD failed, probably because my DVD ? CD rom drive was not recognized. It said <unknown - unknown>.
The second CD gave the same result: no tracks found and no graphics.
After deinstallation of the software and reinstall, the CD drive, tracks and album art was recognized.
The second CD failed again and after trying my first CD again, it also failed and the CD drive was not recognized anymore.

All the CD's I tryed worked perfectly with Windows Media Player.

Am I doing something wrong?

In case of "<unknown>" do you see the right number of tracks listed?

No, I don't see the tracks, nor the album art and behind "CD drive" (left under in screen I see D: [Unknown - Unknown]

Looking at the CD Drive technical details I see
- Manufacturer - Unknown
- CD drive - Unknown
- Firmware - (blank)
- Serial - (blank)

The CD drive works perfect in windows with the explorer, with other rip programs like Windows Media Player and Free:ac, there are no newer drivers available for the DVD-CD drive (type TSS Corp DVDWBD SH-B123L)

Is another program accessing the drive in those moments (like WMP)? What happens if you press the refresh button?

No other programs.
Even after a fresh start of my desktop I have the same problems. The refresh button doesn't help.

Puh, I'm out of ideas. If it is working sometimes and sometimes not, I can only image that the drive itself has some problems. Let's wait what Spoon will write.

It is working mostly not and only once, with one CD sofar.

Do you use a security software? Which one?

Unplug the drive then restart your computer then shut it down and plug it back in. Restart

Sometimes that helps.

I use only Microsoft Defender and Malwarebytes.
Maybe i can try it with switching of Malwarebytes.

I switched the CD drive off in Windows (properties) and switched it on again. But that did not help.

Switching off Malwarebytes does not make any difference.

Hey Theo,

can you uninstall Malwarebytes for a test? Please reboot after the uninstall.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes and restarted my desktop, but unfortunately no result.

It was wise to try the trial version of dBpoweramp first before buying the complete package :-(
