Moving Ripped FLAC files

I am a newby, so I apologise for what may be a very basic question. I am in the process of ripping my CDs to FLAC on a Mac, saving them to an external drive. If I transfer to files to an SD card to use in a DAP, do I transfer each complete folder with the ripped songs and artwork in, or open the folder, select the files and transfer them to SD card?

just copy entire folders to SD card.
