    Check:

macOS Catalina (or newer) introduces per program security access settings, normally OS X will ask when the program tries to access something if it should be granted permission. This security setting can also be set at a later date, click the Apple menu icon: System Preferences >> Security & Privacy >>

also your output location is set correctly.

Thanks for the reply. Permissions appear to be "checked" properly

Output location is as below - I have tried an alternative output location that usually also works, but again no joy.

        /Volumes/Qmultimedia/music ds

The reply I get is - unable to read cd, check cd disc (frame LBA 1378, ripping 26 frames track end LBA 18545 Rip

Just noticed the artist name and album name appear in my Naz drive files, look like the cover is there but no music tracks.
Assume this show the output location is correct, otherwise how did this data get onto to NAS drive.

Try setting the ripping method as 'Burst' does that work?

Tried a different external CD drive and works fine. Why the previous one doesn't like 17.2 I don't know but different ext drive has fixed my problem.

Now it won't work with either external drive.

There is something else at play here (check your security software), not the ripper I am sure. Perhaps hardware related. Anyhow you can still download R17.1:

                    Give that a test.
