CD Ripper Fails Consistently On Brand New PC

    Hi folks,

I purchased a brand new laptop (PC) a couple of weeks ago and have started to continue ripping my CD collection to FLAC. I ripped circa 20 CDs on it recently, and without issue. However, I have now started to receive the following 'error' message(s) and this now happens with every CD I try to rip! Obviously I am very concerned and would be grateful for any kind assistance with this matter.

Please see screenshots (common to all CDs I attempt to rip):

    Many thanks,

    Paul

Does it show the CD drive with full name in the lower left corner? or does it show as 'Unknown - Unknown'?

      Hi Spoon,

      Please see screenshot.

Also, I forgot to say, every time I insert a CD it says: 'use this CD to determine CD drive readings; this will take 5 seconds' (or something like that).

      Cheers,

      Paul

It helps to search the forums before posting. This issue has been reported several times recently.

See here for the fix: CD Riper Cannot See CD Drive [Windows]

          Mville,

I had looked, but I did not know what I was looking for - if you know what I mean. Also, I assumed it was related to the fact the rips were being performed on a brand new PC (ie. maybe I had nit set 'dBpa' correctly, or else there was perhaps a fault with the laptop).

The "Controlled folder access" setting is (as per default) set to 'off'.

In CD Ripper, is your CD Drive still showing as E: [Unknown - Unknown]?

Have you tried running CD Ripper as administrator?

Do you have any security software on the PC?

                Spoon,

The first thing I did was uninstall 'McAffee' when I bought the PC. And did not d/l 'Malwarebytes' s/w this time either.

                Cheers.

                  Mville,

I am quite certain I installed 'Illustrate' 'As Administrator'. But no, I have not tried running the s/w 'As Administrator'.

Have you installed any software or hardware, prior to this behaviour occurring, including any windows updates?

Yes, thinking about it, I installed 'VLC Player' a couple of days ago! I had it on my previous PC and it did not cause any such conflictions. Do you think it could be related?

All Windoze auto-updates have been disabled; though Defender still updates on a daily basis.

What windows version are you running? Right-click Start button >> Run >> Open: type winver >> OK

I always thought it was not possible to disable Windows auto-updates (since Win-10). But apparently you can.

It was an agent from Hewlett Packard who disabled them a couple of weeks ago via remote-access.
