I have a new Tom Waits CD that won’t rip, I get ‘Silence detected, Replay Gain track not generated [dDSP:End Conversion]’. What gives, DRM ? never seen this before, thks

It means the whole track is silence, you have tried playing that track in a CD player? -

Oh yes. I've got several drives, same model, frm one well known manufacturer, that won't even recognize that you inserted certain CDs. Same identical issue with all of the same model. CDs are fine in every other drive I own. The manufacturer issued a firmware update to fix that issue, all it did was make the drive not recognize the insertion of a DIFFERENT set of CDs... And I've had plenty of cases where one drive rips with errors or fails the rip, but a different drive rips error free. And sometimes the opposite drives with a different CD. That's why it is worthwhile to have a collection of different model drives.
Hey, most of them are under $15 at my local computer store. I do find that most "full size" internal drives are far better than most :external" drives.Comment
