Just installed trial - but No Album Art

Ripper is showing that I when I rip to FLAC it puts the correct art in the bottom panel - but when I go to the app (musiccast) I just get a m4a logo for everything -

The weird thing is that musicast can also see my old laptop on the network (which has some old mp3 rips I did using windows mediaplayer) and when i look at the music folder for the laptop through the app it can see album art with no issues.

The rips that dbpowerhouse has done (for the NAS) look normal with a BANDNAME/ALBUMNAME/TRACKS and Folder.jpg file structure (Folder.jpg shows the correct image) - am I doing something wrong or is album art not actually included whilst your on trial.

EDIT by the way the music files all show as FLAC - its just music cast replacing the art with an m4a logo

Maybe musiccast doesn't recognise Folder.jpg as the artwork.

think i have reached the same conclusion - i wondered if windows media player was using a different name but I cant even work out where it hides the artwork in the folders

Ok a bit of experimenting leads me to believe i have some security setting thats stopping the artwork.

I ripped a flac to the laptop that is on the network - art shows up fine when I use the app to stream from the laptop.

rip a flac to the main desktop and I get no art -

This is getting confusing, so please can you describe your setup in more detail. Include all PCs/devices, platforms/OSes and all server/player software used when streaming etc.?

Which application are you not getting the artwork, is the desktop a windows desktop?

Re: Just installed trial - but No Album Art

I have a main PC (Desktop) in the room - I also have a laptop in the house.

Hi Fi is a Linn Classik, pair of Linn lk140s, Aktiv, driving a pair of Linn Katans

I have added to this a Yamaha WXC 50 streamer - connected to the main PC with a LAN to the router (though it can also connect with wifi)

The APP is Yamahas own MusicCast which is on my phone (android) and Nexus Tablet (also android)

I started ripping as a test using dbpoweramp to the main PC into the music folder onto the hard drive.

The Flacs ripped fine and they play fine into the hi fi through the streamer controlled by the app.. The app can see the flacs - however it never shows any artwork - it just shows a default M4A logo (i suspect it just defaults to that if it cant find artwork)

As a test I loaded dbpoweramp onto the laptop and ripped into the my music on the laptop - As the laptop is also on the network the musiccast app can also see the laptop however it also shows artwork fine when the laptop is the source - Its this that leads me to think I have some odd setting on the main PC thats blocking the app from correctly displaying the artwork, even though it plays the flacs just fine.

Both the laptop and main PC are running win10

So, on the main PC you rip to flac and create a folder.jpg, with no embedded artwork. Is this correct and is it the same for the laptop (you mentioned mp3 files earlier)?

Are the PC and laptop both Windows 10, Home or Pro, 64-bit or 32-bit?

Both are win 10 home 64bit

Yes it has created folder.jpg and I can see the artwork when I look at it through irfanview. Its the same on the laptop. But when I stream and the laptop is the source I can see artwork on the phones app - when I stream with the main PC being the source no art shows on the app

                  So, to confirm:

                  1. The flac libraries on both Windows 10 PCs are identical, with no embedded artwork, only folder.jpg.
                  2. Both libraries are configured on the Yamaha WXC 50 streamer.
                  3. Streaming to phone app from the main PC library, artwork is not showing.
                  4. Streaming to phone app from the laptop library, artwork is showing.

If this is correct, maybe the Yamaha WXC 50 streamer and/or phone app is caching artwork and needs clearing or Yamaha can advise?

OK I got a response from a tweet to Yamaha (quite impressed they responded so quickly) howver its a bit tech.

Quote "Make sure when you rip graphic is stored into ID3 tag - max size 300x300"

I know how to set the gfx size but the other doesnt make much sense to me - is that setting I have to specify when I rip.

Re: Just installed trial - but No Album Art

You'll need to question this with Yamaha, as ID3 tag refers to mp3 files and not flac files. Flac files support Vorbis Comment tags.

... also, you might want to ask Yamaha if there is an artwork file size restriction, as well as the resolution restriction, as this is a common restriction in streaming devices.

This seems to suggest you need embedded artwork for mp3 files, something I asked a couple of times in this thread for clarification on.

Just to conclude I solved this by simply ditching WMP in the end and changing to minimserver - Something in WMP just wasnt jelling with this streamer app..
