How can I be helpful for a user who can't even count a naming string from a screenshot? You didn't even read or understand my hint that your naming string is problematic.

Sorry that I couldn't help you, but the problem is sitting in front of your screen. This awareness is very helpful cause it will save me some time in the future.

Dat Ei is a very smart and helpful presence on these forums, but you don't appear to be following the advice here.

It seems your Naming string has been wrong from that start, hence the missing files. They may be somewhere on your hard disk, so try using Windows search and search for the flac files.

If, as you state in your answer to question no. 2, you have now configured both encoders in multi-encoder to use the default Naming string, you should not be losing files, unless files are being overwritten. Are you checking the log file after ripping as this will tell you what is going on (and/or going wrong).

How many CDs have you ripped with the incorrect Naming string i.e. when Dynamic Naming = [origfilename]?

Sorry but he hasn't been helpful to me. And I am following your advice. For the naming string I'm now using the one recommended earlier and it seems to work. From day one the log has always reported all tracks as ripped and going to the correct locations. It's likely that the string was always incorrect or missing when I began ripping a year or so ago and it's my fault that I wasn't actually verifying rips via, e.g, WinExplorer. That won't happen again. As for tracking down missing tracks, given the possible number missing, reintegrating them could be as much of a pain as re-ripping everything. It's about 2K of CDs.

I'm obviously not a technical whiz so I appreciate the tolerance you and Spoon have shown. Thank you again.

I think I have a somewhat related problem as well.
When used via multi encoder, my naming scheme does produce nothing but errors.
The scheme looks like that:
[IFCOMP][album][IFMULTI] - Disc [disc][]\[IFVALUE]track,[track] - ,[][artist] - [title][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album][IFMULTI] - Disc [disc][]\[IFVALUE]track,[track] - ,[][artist] - [title][]
It works fine when used by a single encoder, but when used in multi encoder the log implies that it tries to swap all "-" with "", which of course are forbidden in Windows.
The log looks like that for every track:

What is drive d? can you write to it?

On most systems drive D is the cd drive.

D is one of many hard drives, restoring the Filename Restricted Characters to default did the trick, thank you very much.

First off, I need to apologize to Dat Ei. It was his naming suggestion that actually solved my problem with rips not going where they needed to go. I've incorporated his suggestion and it's working. Unfortunately, reconstructing my screwed-up folders would be such a PITA that I'm re-ripping my entire collection. So that'll be my winter project.

If you have at least one lossless and well tagged copy of your music, there is no need to re-rip the collection, if the structure of your folders is your only problem. With the DSP "Arrange Audio" you can rearrange and rename your files the way you like.
