Different file sizes of 2 CDs (same album)

I have 2 CDs of Manic Street Preachers' Greatest Hits, which look identical, but one came in a jewel box and one in a paper box. The front of the CDs themselves is the same, but both have different codes in the center. When I ripped them, the Ripper reported the same Rip Status and CRC for both of them. The individual file sizes slightly differ, however. I assumed that different pressings would have different numbers in the "Accurate (xx)" Rip Status and different CRC. Or can these 2 CDs be considered the same? Screens attached:

    Folder.jpg differs around 33kB.

Well, different Folder.jpg pictures were probably used each time - I ripped one CD about a year ago and the second CD a couple of days ago.

That is very likely. Look at your second screenshot.

Since the CRCs match up, there may have been differing settings between the two rips. For example, are the tags the same for both?

Well I had no way of knowing the exact CRCs of the older CD at the time of ripping (a year ago), so the same results are due to the program using the same cache for both CDs when they are inserted into the drive subsequently. I now tried to rip the older CD again with reloaded metadata and the CRCs and Rip Status are different. The file sizes are the same as in picture mspB.jpg on the right. So the two CDs are different, I guess it's just a just a question now of whether the program should have associated the one pressing with the other when the CD was inserted into the drive a year later..

              Hey Eman Resu,

the CRCs are just calculated on the audio data. Meta data and album arts have no influence on the CRCs. The CRCs shown in mspA.jpg are identical.

The files sizes in mspB.jpg differ by just the 33-34kB, that can be seen as difference between the two Folder.jpg files in the last row of mspB.jpg.

Well Dat Ei, that's an interesting observation and quite possibly so (about the picture adding to each file). But now after the second rip, apart from different CRCs, the Rip Status (xx) numbers are different as well, so the two CDs must surely be different as well. Screen of the new rip of the CD which was ripped a year ago:

Accurate rips with different CRCs can be the result of a different CD drive (Offset) and/or a different pressing/release of the album.

Eman Resu: Out of curiosity, is the cover art embedded in the files?

I have noticed the various information on differing offsets in my rip results but never paid much attention to them. Good to know.

This thread clearly shows that there are a lot of variables to consider when it comes to ripping CDs. I think the main thing to keep in mind is that one can be confident in the results when AccurateRip indicates that all tracks in a rip are, indeed, accurate. In the case of the new rip resulting in differing CRCs when compared to the earlier one, there are still around 80 matches in the AR database for every track. The disc is still good!

Hi, well, yes, the art is embedded (checked in "Meta Data & ID Tag Options") and the Folder.jpg created automatically in the same folder.

Yes, I'm sure the CD is fine (correctly ripped). I just had two folders with the same album and wasn't sure at first whether they are identical so I could delete one. But now it seems they are different pressings, so I'll just rename the new one from "(2002) Forever Delayed; The Greatest Hits [2]" to something like "(2002) Forever Delayed; The Greatest Hits [jewel case]" :-)
