Ripped tracks missing first part of track - mulitple rips solve issue

    Hi all - please help.
Having used this program on trial I found no issues and was impressed with the results. I have purchased the CD Ripper package 16.1 and now have problems.
I am re-ripping my CDs (approx. 2000) from MP3 (320 variable) to FLAC (level 5). During the trial period there were no problems whatsoever so I paid for the registered version. Since purchase, I have experienced an unusual problem! (I have tried re-installing program - the problem remains).
I rip, FLAC, to a separate folder on a separate drive to final storage. Test a few of the tracks by playing them. Once happy I transfer to my music drive (currently I have re-ripped approx. 24000 out of the 50000 tracks I have, stored on a dedicated USB storage drive) (not sad but music is my hobby!). On some CDS (all original) no problems. However, on my recent purchases an increasing number of tracks are missing the beginning of the track or even up to the middle of the track. If I re-rip the CD it resolves itself on first or second re-rip!!
Specs. Windows 7, Music USB Storage 2TB, ample RAM, program on 250MB SSD drive.
Rip dBpoweramp 16.1, two music databases; a) CreativeMedia 5 (now discontinued - but easy to check tracks) and b) MediaMonkey (In trial period - do not like the skins or flexibility of play that Creative has).
All problem tracks opened in Audacity and show missing data, plus some strange music spikes at beginning of file).
    Any ideas?
    Paul

    Does AccurateRip verify those rips?

      Hi
Thanks for the reply, Yes CD in AccurateRip, most recent CD only had 2 rips but all tracks secure.

You have no DSP effects running?

If ripping to flac and the CD Ripper verified the rip against accuraterip then the data into the flac file is 100% correct. You can later check the flac file is not corrupted by converting it to 'Test Conversion' as FLAC has a md5 of the original data stored.

          Hi
Yes I have 2 DSP a) Volume Normalize and b) folder.jpg preserve. I forgot to add that if I use Exact Audio Copy (EAC) and create wav files then use the batch converter to change to FLAC, this works fine all the time.
With regards to the data being 100% correct, the total data in the file shows in Audacity, by file properties compared with file details within the au project, and the problem files have a front end (less than one second) of unplayable waveform. This suggests a form of compression at the beginning of the track - but this is not consistent across a cd.
I am not familiar with 'test conversion' could you point me in the direction of information and use.

          Thanks Paul

            Run this:

...also how to do a full reset of dBpoweramp? (if dBpoweramp crashes for some reason) Where does dBpoweramp save its files / settings? It is installed to c:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpoweramp or c:\Program Files (x86)\Illustrate\dBpoweramp The 64 bit version of dBpoweramp is installed to: c:\Program Files\dBpoweramp It

Then reinstall and rip one of the problem CDs without changing any settings.

If still issues rip to wave and look at the wave file.

              Hi Spoon
              Three things;
1 Wav files play, convert to FLAC and show no irregular waveforms at the start of the track in Audacity and play in both databases.
2 Mediamonkey rips to FLAC at level 6 (no art work) with noise normalisation - no problems, plays fully in both databases.
3 What settings change between trial and purchased versions that could possibly cause this issue?
Limited time until Thursday to reinstall and rip without additional settings. What is 'test conversion' inside dBpoweramp? I have created wav (EAC) and converted to FLAC within dBpoweramp - no problems!!!

Re: Ripped tracks missing first part of track - mulitple rips solve issue

To do test conversion, right click FLAC >> convert to >> select the encoder as Test Conversion

If there are any errors then it will show at the end. If no errors, try converting flac >> wave, then look at it in the audio editor.

It could be your audacity is not able decode the latest flac files, you are using the latest version?

                  Hi
Have reinstalled, followed the link and 'cleaned' the registry and re-ripped one of my newer cds and had a the same problem but on different tracks and AFTER ADDING ART WORK via either Mp3tag or via file art work in Mediamonkey. I have now changed the art work format from .jpg to .png and bingo all is fine. Why so? This program creates .jpg (in this case folder.jpg) and what changes between trial and purchased version?
Other forum have suggested problems associating art work with FLAC files, what is dBpoweramps' position on this?
Anyway and hopefully I can continue to rip my cds from MP3 to FLAC as before and enjoy my music - with or without art work!

                  Paul

There is no difference between trial and registered they are the same program.

If you are adding the art in a 3rd party program we cannot comment on that. dBpoweramp embedded jpg art should be fine. Try my test of converting the flac to wave with dBpoweramp.
