CD to MP3 (320 kbps CBR) Dither Needed?

I'm diving into the lossless music realm and pulled out all my CD's from the closet and started re-ripping them in AIFF for my master digital versions as well as a copy of MP3's for the car's USB flash drive at 320 kbps CBR. After doing a few hundred CD's I found some use the DSP dither effect when making the MP3's. Is this necessary to obtain the highest quality? I was assuming since the MP3' are 16-bit that dither is not needed??? Also, is it worth running the DSP "Volume Normalize" to get the highest volume level on the MP3's? Ive noticed some MP3's are louder the others...

Can you explain further as there is no Dither DSP in dBpoweramp, as far as I am aware.

and short answer: dithering is not needed or useful in creating an mp3 file from a CD or lossless 16/44.1 file.

Yes, you can chose the DSP "Bit Depth" and dither the rip. Question is do you need to do this when ripping from a CD to MP3 320 kbps CBR. So far I've ripped a few thousand songs and they all sound pretty good, a few are tinny sounding. Guess I could test it out but wanted to see what the forum thought...
